Portugal
Since the 1970’s Portugal’s Algarve has long been a favourite of the middle class holiday maker. You may think of overcrowded resorts and beaches, however these areas are easily avoided and reveal some real gems. Beautiful beaches, hidden coves, excellent surfing and some fantastic family hotels.

Martinhal Resort
Winner of numerous awards including the 2012,13 and 14 World Travel Award for Europe’s Leading Villa Resort. Martinhal Resort is located on a vast open stretch of beach within the unspoilt national park, there are beautiful expanses for hiking, cycling and running as well as fantastic water sports facilities with kite surfing, kayaking and wind surfing amongst them. In addition to the ideal location (which is pleasant for most of the year), there is so much to keep the kids entertained, from the creche (from 4months) to the kids and teen club, not to mention the 4 pools, tennis courts, all-weather sports pitches and table tennis. Accommodation is either in the hotel, apartments or private villas. All are of a modern design and come fully equipped with baby toiletries and sterilisers. Even stair guards if required. There is great variety when it comes to dining and drinking and all have excellent options for children. A firm favourite!

Pine Cliffs Resort
Located just outside Albufeira, Pine Cliffs is perched high atop cliffs, with magnificent views out to sea. A large resort complex which features not only a superb 5* Sheraton hotel, but also a great selection of apartments and villas, which can either be booked on a self catering, half board or bed and breakfast basis. Being a large family resort, there are kids a plenty, and holiday friends to be made! The kids club (starts from 6 months) is full of organised fun. As this is quite a large spread out resort we would normally recommend Pine Cliffs for families with older children as paths and stairs to the beach can often be slightly tricky to negotiate with push chairs in tow.
