Expertly Tailored Experiencesseventyten
Born with a passion for travel, Ed’s career in the industry spans eleven years.
After graduating university with a degree in Anthropology and Marketing and completing a ski season in Alps, I started my career in travel with the ultimate aim of having my own business. I had spent my Gap year living on a tiny island in the South Pacific, which really cemented my love of foreign lands, and I wanted to be able to reflect the life changing experience I had in my own company.
Eleven years later having worked for two of the country’s leading tour operators; Kirker Holidays and Bailey Robinson, my dream was finally realised and Seventy Ten Travel was born.
Now with a wife and two children, my idea on what makes the perfect holiday has changed dramatically, though for me, my core belief remains the same; it is the people who make a holiday truly special. Whether it is sharing a stunning view with a loved one, getting up close and personal with a reef shark, or pontificating on life with old friends at a villa – these are the moments that make a holiday special.
With experience in the mainstream, luxury and tailor made markets, Ed really is your go to man.
I have spent ten years working in luxury travel; designing holidays to Europe, the Middle East, Asia, the Indian Ocean and Australasia. My first foray into the industry was with Kirker Holidays, where my delight in organising tailor-made trips began. Since then I have worked for an award winning Luxury Tour Operator where I managed the Asia team, as well as with a Honeymoon specialist Tour Operator.
Having studied a degree in Politics and History which focused a great deal on other cultures and countries, it seemed to me a natural progression to move into the travel industry where I have had the opportunity to discover and experience a fascinating variety of destinations and cultures over the years.
Always on the lookout for exciting and authentic experiences and activities, I have a particular passion for diving and recently spent a year both training and working as a divemaster in Southeast Asia; scuba diving in particular is a great passion of mine which therefore enables me to offer specialist advice and recommendations both within Southeast Asia and across various other destinations throughout the world. I have also worked with riding safaris in southern Spain, taken a hot air balloon over Cappadocia in Turkey, kite-surfed in Brazil and explored the length and breadth of Italy and its stunning islands to name but a few…
I am extremely excited to be working again with Ed and Ed; I truly believe that with our combined experience and destination expertise not only can we offer fantastic customer experience but also a hugely wide variety of experiences and destinations to suit all kinds of traveller; be they couples, honeymooners, families, single travellers, groups of friends, disabled travellers and of course not forgetting those culture vultures out there.
Ed Coltart 1974-2016
After joining Seventy Ten Travel in September 2016, tragically Ed passed away in November at the very beginning of his new adventure. Although not with us in person, Ed is still very much a part of the company; Ed Burke and Rosie are continuing the work he started, especially in relation to helping those with reduced mobility enjoy travelling and skiing as much as he did. Those who knew Ed, will know he was the most kind, fun and warm-hearted person you could possibly meet and he will be sorely missed.
Ed originally started his career in travel as a reservations consultant with Kirker Holidays in 1998. Having graduated in French and German and always having an interest in travel, this seemed to be the perfect fit and he never looked back. The industry soon got under his skin and he rose through the ranks obtaining roles in contracting and product management whilst always keeping his hand in sales as he always believed this was the only way to stay on top of what is happening in travel.
Sadly a bout of ill health struck in 2005 and he suffered a spinal cord injury which left him partially wheelchair bound able only to walk with crutches. It was ‘sink or swim’ time and he chose to swim. This left Ed with a unique understanding of what it meant to travel with limited mobility and was hugely passionate about offering holidays to his clients who needed that extra bit of assistance along the way.
Ed travelled extensively through continental Europe as well as Egypt, Israel, Oman, Mauritius and South Africa. Particular highlights that he treasured included; being whisked across the Venice lagoon by private water taxi, being awoken at the Four Seasons Sultanahmet by the call to prayer in the heart of Istanbul! breakfasting on the terrace of the Belmond Caruso’s terrace overlooking the Mediterranean below, exploring the Christmas markets of Vienna’s Spittelberg district, driving through the lavender fields of Provence, a chilled glass of fino and a plate of Jamon on a sun soaked square in Seville.
Wow! we had a fantastic time and everything was perfect. Huge, massive thanks from Don and me – we are now left with the problem that we want to go back!!
We’d like to say a huge thank you for a really amazing trip – every hotel was extraordinary in its own special way ….. there were so many exceptional experiences and sights along the way too, the kids loved all the wildlife and temples and we all learnt so much about the culture of Sri Lanka….. the train was such a highlight! Supun our driver was fantastic, so full of insights on all the culture, religion, wildlife and tea and a real joy to be around. He was so polite, great with the kids and brilliant in all the logistics and great fun too…
As you will gather, we have had a terrific holiday (the exchange rate helped the sense of wellbeing!) and very many thanks for all your efforts. Happy to recommend you to anyone.
We have used Seventy Ten Travel several times now and are very impressed. Every holiday has been spot on as Ed really listens to what we are after and tries to find the best he can for our budget. The more we use Seventy Ten Travel the more Ed is able to predict what might suit us. That is the benefit of a truly personal service.
I had received a quote for Mauritius from Trailfinders, then I heard about Seventy Ten Travel…Ed not only beat the quote but managed to get us a wonderful room, he helped with car parking, online check in and was available to help when my mother in law was ill whilst we were away. I was really blown away with the service I received and everything whilst we were away exceeded our expectations.
Ed, what an amazing holiday you organised for us, we can’t thank you enough.
Wonderful hotel, very slick transfers, reservations made, etc. You thought of everything, it was all organised beautifully and ran like clock work, we couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Busy lives and children were making this holiday impossible to get round to; knowing that you understood exactly what we wanted gave us great peace of mind and you made it so easy for us. Huge thanks to you and Seventy Ten Travel, we shall definitely be recommending you and coming back.
Personalised and professional, Seventy Ten Travel understood what we wanted and delivered. Ed’s attention to detail meant we had a hassle free holiday.
Thanks, we had a fab time. The hotel was … perfect for us because of its fantastic location. Vatican – the private guide was very good. We did go for a pizza in San Marco’s off the Via Vittorio Veneto – it was a huge success – thank you for recommending it.
